A MOMENT IN HISTORY
Before the Battle
of Puebla.
“Antes de que Puebla se convirtiera
en símbolo de victoria, Amozoc ya era
parte de la historia.”
“Before Puebla became a symbol of victory,
Amozoc was already part of the story.”
On May 4, 1862, French forces reached Amozoc,
where they established their camp before
advancing toward Puebla.
During that night, Amozoc stood directly between
the advancing French army and the Mexican forces
preparing to defend Puebla.
A FAMILY MEMORY
Our family remembers those events through
a different perspective — one passed down
through generations in Amozoc.
According to our family tradition, local
people refused to provide the French troops
with food and water, seeking to keep them
waiting and exhausted before the Mexican
forces confronted them.
Whether remembered around a workshop,
a family table or through stories passed
from one generation to another, this memory
represents something important to us:
Amozoc was not simply a place where history
happened.
It was a community that wanted Mexico to win.
By the early hours of May 5, the French army
left Amozoc and advanced toward Puebla.
There, at the forts of Loreto and Guadalupe,
the Mexican Army of the East would confront
the invading force.
Amozoc was part of the story before the victory.
